Kendriya Vidyalaya, Silchar was established in the year 1981 under civil sector in thetemporary building near India Club, Tarapur.It was shifted to the new building in the year 1999.The first batch of class X students appeared the Board Examination in the 1987.Similarly the first batch of XII Science and XII Humanities appeared their Board Examination in 1992 and 2001 respectively.At present the Vidyalaya also has the Commerce stream opened in the session 2007-08.

TheVidyalaya is flourishing day by day and nurturing the children with a lot of care. The present strength of the Vidyalaya is around 1800. The Vidyalaya has all the facilities meant for the children to grow mentally,morally and physically. More than 70 dedicated staff under the leadership of Principal striving their best to ensure that children get their best so that they become nation's true asset and keep the spirit of KVS alive with its flag flying high in the national and international educational arena.
